History

Over a century ago, Ray Rausch began Westside Nursery in Mankato, Minnesota. He grew his business with the finest stock obtainable or stock that he developed and nurtured himself. He also grew the business through his philosophy; “Do good work with authenticity that is exemplified in its high quality, social responsibility, and meaningfulness to its practitioners.”

This philosophy was passed down through the years and grew even stronger when Marilyn Anderson-Rausch and Del Anderson built Little Yukon. Over 30 years later, Little Yukon has become a multi-channel wholesaler and retailer of high-quality outdoor living products such as annual bedding flower plants and nursery stock.

In 2002,  Adam Anderson, a dedicated organic gardener and garden-craftsman, extended the values of his great-grandfather into the Little Yukon’s family of products and services with Natural Escapes. This division of the company is focused on design and consultation around outdoor spaces and exceptional products.

2004 brought about the further extension of the Little Yukon brand with the addition of Anderson Scapes. Ivan Anderson founded this new entity to bring the Little Yukon business model and philosophy into the Minnesota Twin Cities and surrounding area.

2007 marked the transition of ownership and management of Little Yukon from Del and Marilyn to their 14 children and grandchildren. All of these young entrepreneurs have been raised in the gardens and greenhouses of Little Yukon, and so the legacy of providing customers with highly value-added (and literally “green”) products and services lives on. The family of Little Yukon business continues to nurture the creativity, honesty, and good personal and community health that have been the hallmark of the company’s success over all these years.

Little Yukon’s owners and employees are very proud of their heritage and strive to grow the business in directions that help their customers achieve their dreams. With the additions of a range of outdoor furniture, garden structures, lighting, irrigation, landscape installation, and décor, along with the highest quality plants and materials, Little Yukon continues to be the region’s best landscape and nursery solutions.

Philosophy

“Do good work with authenticity that is exemplified in its high quality, social responsibility, and meaningfulness to its practitioners.”

This mission statement was written over a century ago, but it is still the foundation of Little Yukon. Our philosophy remains follows the golden rule: Provide unto others the quality of service we would want others providing to us. Not only do we understand the nuances of designing and building biological environments, but take great pride in being certain every detail is completed, and maintaining our creations when asked to do so.

Our client list is a testament to our ability to live up to our philosophy and promises. We have been here for many, many years, and will be for a long time to come.
